Paralympics - Beijing Darda and Andrew on the last swimming day of the 2008 Paralympics Yes, that's Joe Barker in disguise. Andrew, Coach Jeff Toth from Regina and some "dude". Guess we need to keep an eye on the Rick Mercer Report!
Our LAC swimmers with Andrew, after a practice swim at the Water Cube. The Canadian Residence while at the Beijing Paralympics. A look from inside the Water Cube. There are 144 steps to the top of the stands and Andrew climbed them all. Some of the beautiful art on the Olympic/Paralympic Green. Michael Phelps on one of the buildings in Beijing.
Paralympic Training - Osaka Coach Andrew Craven sent the following pictures to us from Osaka Japan where he and the LAC Paralympic swimmers are training. An amazing experience! Click on any picture to see full size. Joe, Kirby, Darda, Jessica, Andrea. Kirby is from the Manta club in Winnipeg and Jessica is from ROW. Team Manager Claude Picard, Sport Scientist Shane Esau, and me. The people at Osaka Pool put up this message during our last workout. From the Japanese Garden inside the Temple; a white stone path between 2 rivers, the Water River symbolizing greed and the Fire River signifying anger, leads the way to Paradise. The Floating Garden Observatory is at the top of the Umeda Sky Building, 173 meters up. The pool in Osaka - used by the British Olympic team a couple weeks ago. Pna-Pacific games were held here. From Nov-Mar the floor is raised and pool is turned into a skating rink! Nice TRAINING facility. Osaka Skyline from Andrew's room in the Osaka Bay Towers - one of the tallest buildings in Osaka. Sunset in Osaka after a full day of training. Looking west, towards Beijing. Rooms in the Osaka Bay Towers are a bit small by North American standards, but very clean and very well equipped. Thankfully the air conditioning works well as it's very hot and humid.
