To
All NYAC Members, Last
night, the current NYAC Board of Directors had their final meeting of the year.
The AGM is on Tuesday, May 27th at 7:30 pm. This is when an election will take
place for the 5 vacancies for next year's Board. You should have all received
your AGM package in the mail which includes an information letter, an agenda,
a nomination form and a proxy. This
Saturday is the Red, Black and White Fun Meet. As per tradition, the National
swimmers will help the coaching staff conduct a clinic for the rest of the NYAC
swimmers, followed by fun relays including the now famous parent relay! To top
it off, Youth and Age 2 will be hosting breakfast following the pool activities. Thank
you to everyone who helped make the May Performance Meet a success again this
year. Special thanks to the meet management team (Cheryl Kicksee, John Chittley,
Yvonne Moy, Steve Lim, Natalie Lychy and Andrea Hamilton, and Olga Macel). It
was especially great to see several members being mentored for these positions
for the future. With very little rest, we are now planning the Mayor's Cup for
the weekend of June 7th and 8th at Douglas Snow. You will receive information
regarding session sign ups very shortly. It is very important that you sign up
ASAP as the time line is short. This meet provides a good opportunity to try your
hand at new positions on deck or to learn about new areas of meet management.
NYAC has formed
a Save the Pools Committee that is actively working with other stakeholders in
Toronto to stop the TDSB from decommissioning the pools slated for closure this
June, to create an Aquatic Plan for the City of Toronto, and to investigate options
for our club specifically in the future. David Crombie has been charged with trying
to bring the TDSB, the City, the Province and the stakeholders together to work
out a solution for school pools. NYAC is represented at these meetings. Despite
the fact that some of the pools that our club uses are not slated for closure
until June of 2009, it is very important that our members continue to write and
phone their representatives at all government levels to keep up the pressure.
Every year, our
club presents one of our parent members with the "volunteer of the year"
award. Please submit nominations to Lui at hungfui.lui@gmail.com
. The Board will vote on the nominees submitted by all members. Tickets
are still available for NYAC's 50th Anniversary Gala on June 20th. You may order
them through the office. EVERYONE IS WELCOME!! Consider purchasing a table with
a group of your friends! There will be dinner, dancing, an auction and the opportunity
to meet with Olympians and Alumni from years gone by. Happy
swimming! Marjie cmarjie@rogers.com
