MAC Welcomes new Head Coach Sean Baker

Posted 2020-05-11

On behalf of the Board, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Sean Baker as the new MAC Head Coach, commencing in the upcoming 2020/2021 swim season.

For the past 10 years, Sean has been the Head Coach of the Oakville Aquatic Club, where he was instrumental in developing an internationally competitive swim program and building one of the largest competitive swim clubs in the country.  While at Oakville, the club won 5 Provincial and 3 National championships.  Prior to Oakville, Sean held Head Coaching positions at Hamilton Aquatic Club (9 years) and Nanaimo Riptides on Vancouver Island (6 years).

Over the past 30 years, Coach Baker has won numerous regional, provincial and national titles.  He has placed many swimmers on National teams to compete on the international stage.  Sean has coached swimmers to over 20 Canadian Senior National and Age Group records.  He has received countless rewards including nine national team appointments as a coach for Canada.  Together with the love and support of his wife and children, Coach Baker would offer that two of his greatest career accomplishments to date include coaching more female swimmers to break the 4:40 mark (SCM) in the 400 IM than any other coach in Canadian history and being the only Ontario club to have won 3 National Championships (2013, 2015, 2017) in the last 25 years.

“It is with tremendous excitement and enthusiasm that I will be joining the Markham Aquatic Club as your new Head Coach.  Together we will embark on a challenging and exciting journey to become one of Canada’s best youth organizations. With a foundation grounded in old fashioned values & principles, our program will not only help develop world class citizens, but outstanding swimmers as a by-product.  It is my distinct pleasure to be your Head Coach and I look forward to leading the team towards a bold and exciting future” – Sean Baker

“Sean’s expertise, reputation and credentials speak for itself.  MAC is very excited to welcome Baker’s passion, his integrity-based philosophy and his commitment to excellence as MAC boldly endeavours to become the premier competitive swim club in Canada.  Please join me welcoming Sean to the MAC family!” – Patrizia Scozzese
